Hi,

If we use official language in Spoken language,Then Are we humiliated? i asked this because in Turkey, if you use like that, then u're funny.I mean If you use official language in Spoken language ,This'll be funny in turkey. All right,How is it in ENGLISH?

In English, we usually speak of 'formal language' rather than 'official language'.

Generally speaking, you should use the kind of language that is appropriate for the situation that you are in.

eg If you are a street criminal talking to a gang of drug dealers, you will sound foolish if you speak formally.

eg If you are Obama and you are making a speech to Congress, you need to speak in a formal way.

Best wishes, Clive

I am a 40 year old Canadian. A native speaker, who is presently teaching English in Turkey. I have worked in many areas of profession and can tell you that how you speak, is directly related to the person you are speaking to, and in what context. The situation is what decides how a person speaks. In general, most native speakers do not speak formally with one another. When speaking to work associates we may even be very relaxed in our speech. Your relationship to that person is often what decides how you speak to one another. Often people are very close to their employers, so they are very relaxed in their speech, but if you are not close, then formal spech is necessary.

Hi,

No, wrong.

You need to look at the words 'formal' and 'informal' in your dictionary.

yeap it's true i mean Canadian people use spoken language right? if they use formal language,is it funny?
from wat i know even in england people use slang an talk informal on the street, it depends of the partner ur speakin with.....(a friend, ur teacher..) formal language is most of the time used when written..... and let me remind u again even on the paper it depends...lol...as u c im not typin in a formal way...XD
Guys, it is not a chat, so please pay attention to what you write. Negligence to English will not add anything to your knowledge and if you can mangle words it doesn't matter you can speak fluently.

all right, To talk formal in everyday life is too funny, am i right ?
Hi,

It depends on what you mean by 'funny'.

I'd say that, in some contexts, formal language can sound rather odd.

But remember that polite people don't laugh at how other people speak.
