Hi , What is the meaning of worried behind my back and Bridge in the following text:

"Just be careful," Vicki says. It's obvious these two have worried at length behind my back .

"' I'm always careful . Are you looking tonight?"

"Sorry. Bridge."

" We're having frozen pizza" Mazy says . She dislikes cooking, and .. "

It did not make sense on first reading. If you do not provide context, I have to google your sentence and try to find out where you got it, and then read the chapter it is in. It would help if you provided a link in the first place.

Post has just realized that Vicki and Mazy have been discussing him when he is not there, a lot (at length), talking about the danger he is in. The writer makes a slight play on words. We talk about someone behind his back, and Grisham just swapped in "worry" for "talk".

The card game, bridge. She has a prior appointment to play cards that night.

Hi,I am terribly sorry . Are you looking tonight is not correct .A atyping error has occurred. It should read: Are you cooking tonight. I sincerely apologize.

Sincere thanks and appreciations for the very useful reply and comments. As'regard the link, would providing the name of the book and its author suffice? Your advice in this respect would be highly appreciated.

It would help. Do you have technical limitations that prevent inserting links?

anonymous Are you looking tonight is not correct .

I was wondering about that, but that is not why it did not make sense. To worry behind someone's back is not immediately understandable.
