Is there any difference between 'monthly once' and 'once in a month'? Which one is better?

Hi,

Neither sounds natural to me. I'd just say 'once a month'.

I call my friend once a month.

You could also just say 'monthly', but 'once a month' is more common in speech.

Is 'once in a month' grammatically incorrect?
Hi,

I'm reluctant to say things like this are grammatically incorrect, because sometimes there can be unusual contexts they fit into. But I'd say that almost always it is incorrect grammar. How's that?
