People I came across professionally included, Joe King, Albert Hall, Justin Quick and Ivor Payne. One of my bosses came across Pearl Gates. Some friends of my parents were going to call their son Keith Neville Pepper; on the way to the christening, someone picked him up, and said, "Come on, K.N.Pepper!", so they called him Neville Keith instead.
With best wishes,
Peter.

One often encounters names that are very likely to be apocryphal, such as Ben Dover. But I suspect the real unfortunates are the women whose parents never considered whom their daughters might marry, resulting in the usual quota of lasses named Rose Bush or Penny Nichols or the like.

My wife had a near-hobby of reading baby names in the newspaper births- and-deaths column (when we still got a daily newspaper), and had thereby become a firm believer in requiring licenses for parenting.

I knew a couple many years ago who had entirely failed to notice what they'd done by naming their son "Peter" their surname was Abbot.

A friend of mine was named O'Toole.
His son was, inevitably, christened Miles.

That wouldn't by any chance be a Dr Peter from Northern Ireland?

The group of doctors, general practioners, who I've been registered with for decades had a Dr Peter and other Doctors . One, Andrew , still works there. For a few years that Peter lived next door to me.
