I'm a french - colombian undergraduate student of linguistics and international relations, I will graduate soon and my dream is to study a master in luxury and fashion management in Paris.

I'm writing a motivation letter (Statement of Purpose) and I would really appreciate it if someone could kindly check what I've written, correct my mistakes and if possible, suggest any rephrasing or changes in the body of the letter and strengthen it.

For as long as I can remember I have always been interested in arts and culture. Coming from a diverse ethnic background I was always intrigued by languages and cultures from around the world. This has led me to the world of linguistics but also introduced me to the world of fashion. Therefore, I have decided to pursue a master’s degree in luxury fashion management in order to cultivate the expertise and abilities that I will need to begin a rewarding and successful career in the luxury industry. It is due to my understanding of the value of luxury that I am inspired to apply to this programme. Fashion is, in essence, a language that can cross borders and cultures, and luxury brands are thus crucial in the age of globalization.

Currently, I am in completing my final year of my bachelor’s degree programme in International Relations. Through this programme I have acquired advanced linguistic and cultural skills in Russian and German with professional approach to language, negotiation, translation, and linguistics. I have developed considerable knowledge of fundamental international business concepts with lessons related to international law, business administration and cultural and institutional characteristics of the English and Russian-speaking geographic areas. These modules have given me the required tools in commercial relations with domestic and international markets that are relevant in today’s global environment.

Due to my strong passion in learning languages, I have recently started to learn a fourth language, as this will help me tremendously in my future work.

In addition to my education, I have acquired considerable professional experience in retail in two of the most prestigious luxury Maisons in the world that represent the French savoir-faire and the Italian excellence. During this time, I was able to apply my linguistic abilities in dealing with clients from different parts of the world while greatly improving my range of analytical and cross-culture communication skills. Through my work and academic experience, I have learned the importance of working with a team in reaching successful sale goals and fully apply the key strategies of luxury businesses. My time working in the fashion luxury industry has thus far exceeded my expectations. Perhaps most importantly, it was this experience which instilled in me the passion for luxury and fashion. Every day, I am inspired and motivated by the demanding and invigorating working environment, and I looking forward to pursuing master’s level studies in such a setting.

The modern business world demands professionals with an understanding of different cultures, languages, and attitudes. These qualities make me especially well-suited for the luxury brand management, especially in today’s globalized business world. Over the last few years, we have witnessed unprecedented demand for luxury goods by international consumers in Asia, East- Europe and The Middle East. Due to the accelerated flows of consumption meanings, the luxury industry is one of the fastest growing areas of global business and these emerging marketplaces now exhibit high degrees of cultural complexity. Consequently, there is a growing demand in the luxury industry for skilled professionals with a thorough understanding in luxury goods management strategies and strong cross-cultural communication competences in order to operate in today's global luxury market.

With the above experiences, I consider myself thoroughly prepared for the challenge of further studies in your graduate school. The courses offered in this programme are specifically in line with my professional goals. Additionally, the opportunity to be face-to face with experts in the luxury industry and the teaching methods based upon lessons, case analyses, company visits, group and individual work sessions within an international and cross-cultural environment provides a great grounding in which to develop the creative and business skills necessary for success in the luxury industry.

While enrolled in the Fashion Management programme I hope to gain knowledge in employing analytical tools and theories, analyze how luxury brands balance accessibility and exclusivity and develop a comprehensive grounding in essential aspects of business, management and leadership in a luxury context. I will be able to successfully develop core managerial competencies through strategic analysis and effective communication. In addition, I will strive to gain diverse skills related to the operational, financial, marketing and product issues that impact strategic and business decisions in the luxury industry.


Regarding my career goals, I am very ambitious; I believe that in today’s competitive business environment, it is crucial to always adapt and push yourself to become a better professional in order to advance in the industry and fulfill your goals and expectations. After completing my master’s degree, it is my dream to build my career in luxury brand management. In order to materialize my aspirations and gain the essential tools to become part of this industry there is a set of knowledge and experience that I aim to achieve through my enrollment in the Master of Fashion Luxury Management.

The brand manager’s role within the fashion luxury goods industry is to motivate, create desire, and build trust through various channels in merchandising, marketing, and communication in order to meet the expectations of a luxury brand’s vision and strategy. Experts in luxury and fashion management know exactly where their products are positioned, fully understand their role in the market, and constantly analyse their relationships with customers. However, the task of the brand manager is not only to attract and retain consumers, but also to improve the practical and organisational management of a brand within the fashion organization. This programme addresses both areas; luxury branding together with business management and organisation skills and after completing your programme I know that I will be armed with the tools I need to achieve considerable success and make a lasting impact in this field.
