I fully agree! A while ago my speaking English was very bad because of lack of practice so I started to watch movies online in English and watched many older movies or TV series to get some practice. If you take any english site like http://justmoviez.to / and start watching movies there then you can raise your knowledge in just few months and it doesn't take much time.
According to my experience, at first you could chose a interesting sitcom and watch it as leaset 3 times, then you will got a big step on listening. After that you will understand the clips or trailers without subtitle.

Listen to a native speaker of English speaking English at a speed you can understand.
Listen everyday English that uses words that you understand and that are spoken clearly enough so that you can hear what the speaker says.

You don’t have to listen for a long time. But you must listen everyday. Listen to English for just 10 or 15 minutes everyday. Research shows that listening for a short time everyday is much better and listening for a long time once a week it is not good to listen to English on Monday and then not listen until Friday. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. You need to hear English everyday.

Do you prefer watching only movies on English? How about TV shows? There are plenty of them: start with Friends or How I Met Your Mother (these are pretty easy in vocabulary), then move to Sherlock, Prison Break, Suits, Lie to Me and other masterpieces. Here is what I do to improve my English skills: I watched movies or TV shows only in English. I forbade myself watching them in any other languages. Subtitles help me to detect words which I couldn’t understand while listening. All these unfamiliar words I write in my own vocabulary list. And then, for example, when I’m eating or driving to somewhere, I repeat them.

When started my adventure in English, I found watching Friends TV show very useful, as the vocabulary of that show is not complicated, so you can learn many useful words!

I honestly recommend watching movies that you like the most. I don't think you're going to learn much if you're forcing yourself to learn by watching things that don't really interest you. For example, many people actually learn English by watching the show "Friends" or by listening to their favorite music. Not because they think it was the best method, but rather it was most interesting to them.

I can recommend two films that have helped me in learning English: these are "The King’s Speech" (2010) and "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). Films were shot at different times, so it's worth watching them. "The King’s Speech" is very well in order to learn how to pronounce the words correctly. In addition, they helped me understand how to write a movie review and how to fit the main theses into my work.

You can start learning English by watching different TV series like Friends and How I Met Your Mother. English there is pretty simple, so it won't be hard for you to understand it. You can also watch movies like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and The Lord of The Rings.
