Hi Friends,

Is it okay to use many quotes within a line like this?

I said, 'Don't do it,' to which he retorted, 'You have no right to order me around,' so I left the place at once.

Just a sentence I made up, so don't focus too much on that and say it can written as separate dialogues etc. That's not the point. I just want to know if two quotes can be combined like this; that's all.

Thank you, friends.

No. Well, obviously you can, but I say, "Don't do it."

"Why not?" you ask interrogatively.

"Because violating basic layout principles had better be done by a genius who has a good reason to break the fourth wall in so trivial a fashion."

OK, do it once just to get it out of your system and then go back to caring about the poor reader who has to fight with his own trains of thought, the neighbor's barking dog, that itch on his foot that keeps coming back, and now you and your unnecessary unconventional typography.
