People generally have a tendency to create stereotypes of nations and cling tenaciously their prejudices. This research was implemented by a European Firm on several European inhabitants in order to learn people's common sense toward their European neighbours. The ensuing publication,Guides to National Practices in Western Societies gave some idea about how European people think of each other.Have fun!

-------------------------------------------------

Germans

Liked themselves best of all. Most Europeans agreed that the Germans had the highest proportion of good qualities. They considered themselves very tolerant, but nobody else did. They saw themselves as fashionable. Others found them 'square'.

--------------------------------------------------

French

Not really admired by anyone except the Italians. Other Europeans found them conservative, withdrawn, chauvanistic, brilliant, superficial, hedonistic. Also, not very friendly.THe french agreed on the last point.

---------------------------------------------------

British

Mixed reactions. Some found them calm, reserved, openminded, trusthworthy;others deemed them hidebound, insular and superior.Everyone was unanimous that the British had an excellent sense of humor. The British most admired the Dutch.
Swiss

Showed considerable lucidity and powers of self analysis.saw themselves as serious, trusthworthy, but too money minded and suspicious. Most Europeans agreed. The Swiss liked the Germans best.

----------------------------------------------------------

Italians

Generally considered by everyone to be lazy and untrustworthy, and the Italians agreed! Most also found them to be vivacious, charming, hospitable and noisy. The Italians admired the French and the dutch.Hardly anyone loved the Italians except the French.

----------------------------------------------------------

Dutch

Most admired people in Europe-except their neighbours-the Belgians.Everyone agreed that the dutch are hardworking ,thrifty, good natured, tolerant, and business minded. The Netherlands, however, wasnt considered a good place to live.

----------------------------------------------------------

Belgians

Least admired in this group. They see themselves as easy going and diligent workers.Other Europeans consider them undisicplined and narrowminded- and lousy drivers.
And now, in which group are you? Do you agree?(except Ruslana:)) What else would you like to add? I am sure it is impossible to extrapolate it to general from individuals but you know, every culture has more or less its stereotypes.Have fun!

He he he..this is a good joke!As far as Italians are concerned we don't admire the French, and they don't admire us (I'm not talking about personal relationship,I know many friendly and brilliant french guys!)!I think that we,and the French, are so different!

By the way, there's a joke about Italians\French relationship: "Someone says that the French are our cousins!I think that our dad had a bad and great quarrel with our uncle!" Emotion: smile

About german fashion,I still don't understand why,in summer, they use the sandles with white socks..it's a mistery for me! Emotion: stick out tongue

Oh,I'm in the italian group,I see myself, and the other Italians as lazy, vivacious, charming, hospitable and noisy! But I don't think we're untrustworthy! Emotion: big smile
