Hi, I am having trouble with a few questions on an english assignment. We are supposed to correct sentences if it is needed.
1. Dr. Frankenstein flung a power switch, blue streamers of static electricity crackled about the table the creature gave a grunt and opened smoldering eyes.
2. Either the interviewer or the committee members usually begins by asking simple questions about your background.
3. Neither the immigration officials nor the wildlife conservationists been able to find a solution that will protect both the U.S. border and the endangered wildcats.

The people who are trying to do this homework still need to make better suggestions about #1. Are there any ideas from any of you?
Best wishes, Clive
I wasn't quite sure about the first one so I didn't comment about it but I guess I can give it a shot now..
I'd correct it '...crackled around the table..' and '...opened its smoldering eyes...' I also believe the last part is too long to be clear so I'd combine the last two sentences using a conjunction..
Fingers crossed!

1. Dr. Frankenstein flung a power switch, blue streamers of static electricity crackled about the table the creature gave a grunt and opened smoldering eyes.
The problem here is that this consists of three 'run-on' sentences. You can't just join sentences with a comma. Here are some ways to say it correctly.
1. Dr. Frankenstein flung a power switch. Blue streamers of static electricity crackled about the table. The creature gave a grunt and opened smoldering eyes.
1. When Dr. Frankenstein flung a power switch, blue streamers of static electricity crackled about the table and the creature gave a grunt and opened (its) smoldering eyes.
