Should I use the article "the" before the word before "of" in this sentence or in general. Here's the example (scientific text):

The aim of the measurements was to detect possible changes in the electric conductivity of fracture-specific water.

or

The aim of the measurements was to detect possible changes in electric conductivity of fracture-specific water.

Which one is correct or are they both wrong? Thanks!

I do not think that "the" is required before fracture-specific water.
Both are correct. Personally I'd use the article.
