It is said that they do it once in their life time.

Can I say 'once in their life times'?

I don't think we ever say.

Thanks

Hi Liveinjapan"
It is said that they do it once in their life time. That should be spelled as one word: lifetime.

Can I say 'once in their life times'? I wouldn't, but I suppose the use of lifetimes would not be technically wrong.

Thanks, Amy.

I just watched cnn.com and heard this sentence. That certainely should be one word 'lifetime.'
Do you mean lifetimes is not appropriate here, although it's not technically wrong?

Hi LiJ

I think lifetimes would probably only be used to stress each of their individual lifetimes (or if someone actually worded it that way).
I understand. It's clear. Thanks, Amy.Emotion: smile

No. If you hadn't told me, I would be using it wrongly. Thanks, Yoong Liat.Emotion: smile
