Hey All,

In your opinions, which sounds better?

1. Overseas Managing Department

2. Overseas Management Department

The company I work for is combining the Research & Development Department with the Overseas Trade Department. We need a new name for the combined departments.

If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to add.

Thanks!

I prefer #2 to #1. However, #2 is not great, because it doesn't really tell me what is being managed, or what the responsibility of the new department is. I don't think you need to stress the word 'management', becuase every dept. normally involves management of something.

How about something like The Overseas Trade, Research and Development Department ?

Best wishes, Clive
I like the sound of: Overseas Trade, Research and Development Department

...but my boss thinks it's too long.

What about: Overseas Trade and R&D Department

Does that sound strange?

Hi,

Overseas Trade and R&D Department

It's not very clear whether the 'overseas' adjective applies just to Trade, or to R & D as well.

How about R & D and Overseas Trade Department ?

Best wishes, Clive
Ahhh....I understand. Yeah, the 'overseas' only refers to the 'trade department'

...otherwise...what about: Development and Overseas Trade Department
Also....do you think we should drop the idea of : Overseas Management ..completely???

Hi,

...otherwise...what about: Development and Overseas Trade Department Sounds OK

Also....do you think we should drop the idea of : Overseas Management ..completely??? Yes, that's my suggestion. 'Management' is implicit when you call something a department.

Best wishes, Clive
