Hi

Is the red part totally natural in this dialogue? Any suggestions please?

A- Did you feel offended the way you were transferred?

B - No--at any rate, I was overstaying my tenure and only needed to make an exist.

Thanks,

Tom

Broadly speaking, tenure is a word used in a university setting. If a professor has tenure, it means he cannot be (easily) dismissed by the university.

You might be interested in these expressions, but they are not commonly used if your context involves employment.

A- Did you feel offended by the way you were transferred?

B - No--at any rate, I was overstaying my welcome and only needed to make an exist exit.

outstay your welcome means stay longer than people want you to stay.

We sometimes say overstay your welcome.
