When I got home, I realized I'd forgotten to turn off the TV after I had finished watching a movie.

When I got home, I realized I forgot to turn off the TV after I finished watching a movie.

Is there a difference here? Are both sentences grammatically correct? Thanks

This sentence is correct as written.

When I got home, I realized I forgot to turn off the TV after I finished watching a movie.

The other one should be written like this:

When I got home, I realized I'd forgotten to turn off the TV after I finished watching a movie.

This sentence is correct as written.

When I got home, I realized I forgot to turn off the TV after I finished watching a movie.

The other one should be written like this:

When I got home, I realized I'd forgotten to turn off the TV after I finished watching a movie.

Why did you switch "after I had finished" to "after I finished" in the second sentence?
