I heard following sentence from one of videos I've watched. Though, it is clear that they talk about a past event, why they have use "is" to talk about the time period in that introduced the farming economy. If I had written this sentence, I would have use "is when a total farming economy was introduces" instead of the following sentence. Therefore, I would really appreciate it, if someone could explain this and why they have used present tense instead of past tense in the following sentence

Today, we're going to move on to period between four and six thousand year ago, known as the Neolithic period, which is when a total farming economy was introduced in Ireland.

"was introduces" is not a grammatical verb form.

When we write definitions, the present tense is used.

The "big bang" is (present) when the universe began. (past)

The Neolithic period is when people began to settle down in farming communities.
