Hi,

I've got a problem with the tenses in a simple question:

"Why did you come to this country?"

vs.

"Why have you come to this country?"

(The person in question arrived a couple of days ago, he is still here and he is going to leave again in five months.)

What version would you regard as correct?

Thanks in advance

Either one is fine. The second carries the nuance of the reason's perhaps not yet being fulfilled.

I'm really glad to hear that, because I couldn't decide which one to take.

Thanks again
