UN Secretary General: I was so committed that when my father passed away, I didn't fly home immediately.Only after a meeting, did I go back to my hometown to pay tribute to my father.

Is there another way of saying "pay tribute"?
Thanks.

"pay my respects" is the most common expression. I don't think I've ever heard "pay tribute" used in this context.

I have heard pay tribute numerous times but don't recall the exact context. Could you provide a context in which pay tribute fits?
