Dear Sir or Madam:

My interest in media studies dates back to my years at high school when I started to realize how mass media and new means of communication change our everyday lives. I had a chance to observe a huge media system transformation in my country. After years of limited and communist government ruled media scene there were first commercial channels, advertising upswing and later on also mobile phones and internet hype. This experience influenced my decision to pursue undergraduate education in the field.

During my undergraduate studies I had the opportunity to be exposed to the wide range of practical journalism courses and media studies courses. The Media Studies and Journalism programme at the Faculty of Social Studies offered us a chance to explore not only news writing, web page creating and photography but also courses focused on media research techniques, critical media thought, media audiences and media effects. During my studies at the Masaryk’s University I’ve realized that I would like to extend my knowledge of media theory and research in the future.

The first opportunity for independent research work was my final thesis. I decided to explore the way in which woman’s glossy magazines represent green goods and green consumerism in general. The experience of designing and conducting the research by myself belongs to the most valuable gains from the undergraduate programme. The results of my final thesis were published in a journal specializing in environmental topics.

Faculty of Social Studies has an excellent reputation for its demanding and up to date courses. With a grade average of 1.67 I belonged to the top quartile of the students on the course.

As my related work experience is concerned I already had a chance to benefit from the university gained knowledge in the professional field. In 2006 I was volunteering for a non-profit Fair Trade organization in . I was responsible for media activities such as press releases and press briefings. Currently I’m taking part in an internship with the A.B.C company which is one of the biggest producers of medical goods in the . At the position of a Brand Manager trainee I had a chance to work on advertising campaigns and customer researches. It was an excellent opportunity to see the commercial media world from the client’s point of view which involves all the advertising deals and media lobbying.

In terms of a future career, I see myself either working in media research (commercial or university based) or finding a placement in within advertising business.

In my studies towards a master’s degree, I hope to extend my knowledge on the subjects such as environmental discourse in media, gender and minority media representation and the impact of new media upon society. I was glad to find out that these topics belong to the research interests of the Centre for Mass Communication Research and some of them are covered in the courses offered. Another reason to take the Masters Programme in Mass Communications at your Department is its long established tradition of media research, wide variety of related learning resources and academics who are involved in the current research in the field. As stated above, I’m highly interested in pursuing my master’s degree in Mass Communications. As I am aware of the superb reputation of the Department of Media and Communication I hope you will give me a chance of continuing my studies at your institution.
Best regards,
X.Y
Really there's nobody who could help me with this one?

thank you for taking time to read it and for your helpful suggestions.

Does it really make sense to say "I had the opportunity to see the wide range of practical journalism and media studies courses" ?

I mean that was attending the courses...

please do check my statement of purpose and tell me how it is..... The knowledge acquired in schools and colleges, I believe is not an education, but the means to it. It is this belief that makes me ‘a student to the end of my days’: the obvious direction being curiosity towards exploration. Ever since I remember, machines were always fascinating for me. Even now I dismantle machines trying to figure out what actually is going on inside. This inquisitiveness and love for machines made me choose mechanical for my Undergraduate studies. I was able to cherish my dream of getting into the stream of Mechanical Engineering in a reputed institution. I am proud to say that I studied in one of the best colleges in the state. Having now graduated in Mechanical Engineering, I have reached a stage in my life where I wish to pursue further my education. As a school student I have been an avid follower of Formula Racing Events and had a significant collection of automobile related books and magazines that kept me up to date on the latest developments in automotive technology. The passion for automobiles was always in me. As my undergraduate studies progressed, I gained exposure to a variety of aspects and my interest increased steadfastly on automotive engineering. I realized that automotive engineering is one of the most challenging and engaging careers. As part of my academic training in the final year, I undertook projects that tested my fundamentals and applied skills. All through my academic program, I had the desire to work on automobiles and wanted to bring in ideas that were atypical. Under the guidance of my mentor and Head of Mechanical department, I decided to carry out a group project on a skill that most of the drivers find hard to learn, Parallel Car Parking. Parallel car parking is a method of parking the car in line with other parked cars. Cars parked in parallel are in one line, parallel to the curb, with the front bumper of each car facing the rear bumper of the adjacent one. The car designed for the project possesses wheels that rotate 360- degrees; hence one need not struggle while parking the car. The car is run by the use of solar panels that generates power when the car moves on sunlight. This concept offers incredible packaging characteristics, high distribution of torque. The car is run by the use of electric motor; 2 for each wheel. The car is basically stopped parallel to the space where it is to be parked, then the wheels are made to rotate in 180 degrees and the vehicle can be parked in the required space. This being a group project, there were many situations where the opinions would defer amongst the group but they were sorted out. These situations helped me to develop myself into an understanding leader and a team player. The project helped me to understand various technical concepts. The project was a grand success and was nominated as one among the top three projects. After this I was more than ever determined as I felt a burning desire to attain the highest level of education and transcend new scope for research in Automobile Engineering. To satisfy my curiosity and to fulfill my ambitions I have decided to pursue a masters program in Automobile engineering. Since I wish to be well acquainted with various mechanical softwares like CATIA V5, Unigraphics-NX, etc I am presently attending various coaching classes to master them. Being a prospective student for new challenging ideas, I believe that an opportunity for higher education in U.K. will be a unique chance to test and prove my ability and also to enhance and broaden my knowledge with transition to a new setting. Finally, I would like to add here that my parents have always been a source of inspiration to me. They have set personal examples and ideals for me. As a result of this, I believe that over the years, I have evolved into a person who can fit easily into a team and who appreciates the value of discussion and exchanges of ideas. I am largely self-regulated and am capable of independent work, given an opportunity. I would like to conclude with the reasons for me choosing to apply to your esteemed university for my Master degree. I strongly feel that Masters in Automobile Engineering program from your University is a highly structured program because it provides the right balance between theory and Research. It would give me ample opportunities to apply my knowledge in research related platforms and test it on real world problems. Post master's, I would like to work with a research and development team and aid in contributing towards advancement of technology. It is against this backdrop that I would earnestly implore you to consider my candidature, hoping that you would provide me an opportunity to be a part of your esteemed institution. 12:22 am
