Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to apply for PhD student position at AA University.

In 2016, I completed my Master of Public Health degree at BB University. The program is academically-oriented and has trained me to draw on knowledge and skills from a variety of disciplines to help define, critically assess and resolve a broad spectrum of public health problems and issues. I also hold a Master of Pharmacy degree from CC University in 2012. This program contained clinical knowledge practice and research methodology as well. During my studies, I have focused a lot on the field of epidemiology include prevalence estimating, incidence estimating, research methods, regression models, statistic programs and decision analysis program.

During my graduate studies, I have gained experience in research and public health education. In BB University, I had numerous opportunities practicing with STATA to perform statistical procedures and produce data reports and applied epidemiology research principles to these reports. My master’s thesis is “----------.” I choose to perform a scope review to compare the difference because there is a lack of database available. In CC University, my master’s thesis project, entitled, “----------,” has provided me with the opportunity to learn about research protocol writing, research design, database use and working with SAS and SPSS to generate reports. In addition to statistics programs, I have also gained experience in performing a course project in using TreeAge to estimate the cost-effectiveness analysis of ----------.

I am confident my skills, epidemiology background and knowledge regarding diseases and potential risk factors would provide beneficial to this position. I am eager to become involved with AA University and would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you in person to further discuss this position. I can be reached at 0000000000 or email Email Removed .

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely yours,

You're welcome! Good luck with your PhD.
Here are a few general comments.

You seem to focus on 'I can do the work'. Have you considered focusing more on why you want this position?

A lot of theses details may be better left in your CV.
Are you attaching your CV? A cover letter is called a cover letter because it tels the reader that something is attached or enclosed..

What is there in your cover letter that will make you seem better than the other applicants? I'm sure they will all be well qualified.
Hi Clive,
Thank you for the comments. Following is my revised version. Could you please help me check it as well?
Thank you for your help.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to apply for PhD student position in AA University.

That program has trained me to draw on knowledge and skills from a variety of disciplines to help define, critically assess and resolve a broad spectrum of public health problems and issues. I also hold a Master of Pharmacy degree from CC University in Taiwan which I obtained in 2012. That program involved practical applications of clinical theory, and research methodology as well. My studies focused especially on epidemiology, including prevalence estimating, incidence estimating, research methods, regression models, statistical programs and decision- analysis programs.

During my graduate studies, I gained experience in research and public-health education. I am interested in epidemiology and public health. I think population health is correlated with policies and most of the time policies are based on the research results. There is a national health insurance in Taiwan which is similar to the social health insurance system in Sweden. Furthermore, there are also some similarities between Taiwan and Sweden. For example, the life expectancy in both countries is around 80 years and people in both countries have a similar consuming pattern in seafood, alcohol, salt, and sugar. Nowadays, except for genetic expression and medication, plenty of diseases have been proved that they are correlated with lifestyle including food consuming. Since there are some similarities, I wonder the prevalence and risk factors for diseases are similar to each other. These results can be for further research such as health policies, health system, and medication.

I am confident that my skills, epidemiology background and knowledge regarding diseases and potential risk factors would help me with my PhD research in ---------- in Sweden. I am eager to become involved with AA University and would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you in person to further discuss this position. In the meantime, I am enclosing my CV and theses. Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to apply for PhD student position in AA University.

Isn't the term 'a PhD candidate'?

Shouldn't you state clearly and immediately the field you want to work in, and what you want to research in that field? I don't get a clear picture of this from your letter.
Hi Clive,

Thank you!
In Sweden, the PhD position is considered more likely as a job. Once they have a clear goal and research project, then they open this position for application. This is the reason that I mentioned what I can do rather than which kind of research I want to do in my cover letter.
What about clearly stating the field?.
I assume there may be positions in various fields.
