Hi, how are you?

I did buy my dream car, a Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG, when season two of The Office was picked up.
What does "picked up" here mean?

Don't know what they wanted to say. I'd have expected:

... when season two of The Office (just) picked up (just re-started/resumed)

A TV series that was contracted, thus guaranteeing income for a dream car?

Hi.

More context ....

I was 22 when I drove from my town of St. Louis to Los Angeles in a 1986 Mazda 323 hatchback to chase my dream of acting.

...

When I got to L.A., I landed a job as a secretary, and I'd often sneak out of the office to go on auditions.

...

I kept the car until I married in 2000, when I learned it needed $350 of work. I couldn't justify the money, so I begrudgingly donated it. I did buy my dream car, a Mercedes-Benz C55 AMG, when season two of The Office was picked up. Yet there will always be a speacial place in my heart for that little Mazda.
Thanks in advance for your help.

This seems to be the part that is confusing us, or at least me.
When the network agreed to renew the TV series called "The Office," the person felt secure in having a job for at least one more year. And at the rates they get paid, I'm sure that Mercedes was paid for in about ten minutes of a single episode. (The charm of that show is entirely lost on me. I think it's really dumb with incredibly unappealing characters. But that didn't keep the network from renewing it anyway.)

Oh, okay. So, it's "when they decided to go into the season two of The Office," isn't it?

Hi,

Yes. When the TV network decided to pick up (ie sign a contract for and show on TV) the second season of the TV show called 'The Office'.

Best wishes, Clive
