Hi. How do you think we should punctuate the conjunctive adverbs like "therefore", "thus", "as well", "meanwhile" when placed (somewhere?) in the middle of a sentence? Should we put comma around them?

(some sample sentences written by me)

He found out that he had had big support from the majority all along for the plan. He therefore (commas around this?) went ahead with the plan.

He found out that he had had big support from the majority all along for the plan. He thus (commas around this?) made up his mind to go ahead with his plan.

He found out that he had had big support from the majority all along for the plan. He also found out the majority included some people he hadn't counted on to get support from as well (commas around this?)and it made him pleasantly surprised.

He ran around to collect the trash but his friend meanwhile (commas around this?) stood by watching what he was doing.

My opinions:

"... He therefore went ahead with the plan." -- No commas.

"... He thus made up his mind to go ahead with his plan." -- No commas.

"He also found out the majority included some people he hadn't counted on to get support from, which pleasantly surprised him." -- "as well" seems awkward and unnecessary. I'd just delete it (and make a couple of other adjustments shown).

"He ran around to collect the trash but his friend, meanwhile, stood by, watching what he was doing." -- Here I think I would use commas. It also seems to me that a comma is needed after "stood by".
