Some people think that there should be a complete ban on all forms of advertising.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Advertising has permeated several aspects of contemporary society and the market due to the popularity of social platforms and consuming cultures. Opinions are divergent regarding whether it should be completely prohibited or legally accepted. Although there remain certain risks, advertising shouldn’t be entirely eliminated due to its numerous benefits.
Concerns regarding the outlaw of commercial campaigns include misinformation and manipulation. Regarding the former, since advertisements are usually short and general, only the positive sides of the products are displayed to catch the viewers’ attention. Therefore, exposure to such ad projects perpetuates the dissemination of unverified information, leading to deleterious consequences. A doctor may overprescribe drugs to a patient if trusting an unreliable medical. Furthermore, advertising may also be a manipulative tool. To attract the target audience, marketing companies make use of gimmicks such as catchphrases and subliminal messages. As a result, consumers may be subconsciously affected and eventually purchase irrelevant merchandise.
However, advertising shouldn’t be completely banned as innumerable benefits can be reaped from it such as the diversity of options as well as higher employment rates. Advertising serves as a tool to notify customers about what is available in the market and helps them make informed purchasing decisions. Illustration for this can be seen in Honda, a multinational company that continually informs its consumers about its latest motorbike models and products. Through this information, consumers can make wise decisions when purchasing new motorbikes as well as upgrading engines. Another reason is the reduction in unemployment rates. Advertising is a creative sector that attracts a large number of talented individuals such as artists, painters, and photographers. Had it not been for advertising, the unemployment rates would have been much higher.
In conclusion, advertising poses potential risks of misinformation and manipulation to the average consumer. Barring such concerns, it shouldn’t be entirely prohibited as there exist several advantages, including higher employment rates and a variety of choices.
VieteTo what extent do you agree or disagree?
Advertising has permeated several aspects of (I don't understand this.) contemporary society and the market due to the popularity of social platforms and consuming cultures. Opinions are divergent regarding (This is memorized template response. It does not fit this task.) whether it should be completely prohibited or legally accepted. Although there remain certain risks, (I believe you are writing a "discuss both views" or "advantages/disadvantages" essay type. You are started on the wrong way.) advertising shouldn’t be entirely eliminated due to its numerous benefits. (You did not answer the prompt.)
You did not read the essay instructions carefully enough. You did not understand this task. You are writing the wrong response. That is bad for your score.
Read the instructions three times so you understand the task. The examiner is looking for an answer to this question: To what extent do you agree or disagree?
The prompt is NOT "Do the advantages of ads outweigh the disadvantages". That is an entirely different type of essay.
It is good to know a good handful of adverbs of extent because this is a very common prompt in IELTS Task 2 essays.
Complete agreement / disagreement:
------------
completely
fully
totally
wholeheartedly
unreservedly
with no reservations
without reservation
unequivocally
unquestionably
with no hesitation
unconditionally
You do not have the advanced writing skills for a "partial" agreement. You have to be consistently writing at band score 7.5 or higher to successfully write a "partly agree" essay. Take one side - total agreement or total disagreement and write two body paragraphs for your answer.
Here is a lesson on how to write agree/disagree essays.
:
(I do not understand if you are agreeing or disagreeing. ) Concerns regarding the outlaw of commercial campaigns (The subject is advertising) include misinformation and manipulation. Regarding the former, (Do not use "former" and "latter". It disrupts the flow of reading since the reader has to look backwards to identify what you are referring to. It is bad for cohesion and coherence.) since advertisements are usually short and general, only the positive sides of the products are displayed to catch the viewers’ attention. Therefore, exposure to such ad projects perpetuates the dissemination of unverified information, leading to deleterious consequences. A doctor may overprescribe drugs to a patient if trusting an unreliable medical. (ungrammatical. MEdical is an adjective.) Furthermore, advertising may also be a manipulative tool. To attract the target audience, marketing companies make use of gimmicks such as catchphrases and subliminal messages. As a result, consumers may be subconsciously affected and eventually purchase irrelevant merchandise. (OK, you have some points why all adverts should be banned.. That is your view, right?)
(Oh dear, you are doing a switcheroo - changing your opinion!. That is a disaster for your band score.) However, advertising shouldn’t be completely banned as innumerable benefits can be reaped from it such as the diversity of options as well as higher employment rates. Advertising serves as a tool to notify customers about what is available in the market and helps them make informed purchasing decisions. Look at the scoring criteria for "Task 2" essays:
If you state your opinion in the opening paragraph, and then develop it in the body paragraphs, you have the chance at a score of 7 or even higher. You can demonstrate your supporting arguments to the examiner continuously throughout the essay.
Band 9
• presents a fully developed position in answer to the
question with relevant, fully extended and well supported
ideas
Band 8
• presents a well-developed response to the question with
relevant, extended and supported ideas
Band 7
• presents a clear position throughout the response (If you change your opinion in the middle of the essay, your score goes below 7... maybe much below!)
• presents, extends and supports main ideas, but there may be a tendency to over-generalise and/or supporting ideas
• may lack focus
Band 6
• presents a relevant position although the conclusions may become unclear or repetitive
Band 5
• expresses a position but the development is not always clear and there may be no conclusions drawn
• presents some main ideas but these are limited and not sufficiently developed; there may be irrelevant detail
Can you explain how is it that I'm not producing a partial agreement essay? And will learning how to pull it off give me a higher band?

Here are some sentences:
I totally agree.
I disagree one hundred percent.
I am in full / complete agreement.
I wholeheartedly disagree.
I agree with no reservations.
WIthout any hesitation, I completely disagree.
You did not use the adverbs of partial agreement.
----------------
somewhat

slightly
to some / a limited extent
e.g.
I somewhat agree.
I agree, but with some reservations.
VieteAnd will learning how to pull it off give me a higher band?
It required a very advanced writer to agree partially, e.g. 75% agreement and 25% disagreement. If your paragraphs are balanced at 50% / 50%, that is a different kind of essay, namely "discuss both views." One technique is to state, and immediately refute an argument for the opposing view. Do not spend many words on the opposite side.
You can get a good band score with a 100% / 0% position. It is easiest to write and less risky. You simply only give arguments in favor of one side. You have a consistent view throughout the essay.
You do not know what type of essay you will get on the actual exam. It is better to learn how to properly respond to each of the different essay types. The "task response" score is only 25% of your score. The other components are "cohesion and coherence," "lexical resource" and "grammatical range and accuracy."
What is your goal?
Thanks a lot! About goal, I want to improve my writing skills and get the highest score possible to my ability.
VieteI want to improve my writing skills and get the highest score possible to my ability.
Great!
Your first step to that goal is to completely understand the exam and its scoring criteria.
Next, identify your weakest area. Is it generating ideas? Is is vocabulary? Is it writing style (e.g. cohesion, coherence, redundancy or logical organization?)
Then focus on that area for improvement. Once that has improved, find the next weak area and work on that. It is the most effective plan to get a higher score.
