Hi

I made some sentences, but I am not sure whether they are right or not. If you find something wrong in grammar or vocabulary, help me check them.

Thank you very much.

1.Whether a nation's major cities can be prosperous and progressive is primarily dependent on how many budgets the government funds them. However, the development of a nation's major cities always interferes with the preservation of its cultural traditions and damages its historical relics and cultural heritage.

2. When the government tries to develop Beijine city into the modern one, many historical and old buildings were pulled down and supplanted by skyscrapers.

3. Because more than ten million people live in Beijine, the government has to expand its infrastructures in order to improve the standard of people's life.

4. It is better for remote areas and rural cities to keep its undeveloped lands and old buildings in a natural state than in the urban cities.

5. China's past economic development relied on the agriculture industry. That farmers spare on energy in cultivating their fruits, grains, produce typically represents the symbol of China's traditional culture: diligence

my mind was mixed up about that sentence is "2. When the government tries to develop Beijine city into the modern one, many historical and old buildings were pulled down and supplanted by skyscrapers."

at first you wrote with simple present (When the government tries to develop) then you wrote with past passive (many historical and old buildings were pulled down). they are contrasted.

to me it should have been " when the governments tried to develop bejine city into the modern one, many historical and old buildings were pulled down................................"

you can say otherwise " when the governments tried the Bejine to develop into the modern city..............................................."

so like this...

if i'm not correct please warn me...
This is my version:

1. Whether a nation's manjor cities can prosper and move forward is primary dependent on how well they are funded from the national government. It is also important to point out that the development of those major cities usually affects the preservation of their cultural traditions and heritage and damages their historical relics.

2. When the government tries to develop the city of Beijing into a modern metropolis, many historical and dilapidated buildings were razed and replaced with tall skyscrappers.

3. Because more than ten million people are living in Beijing, the government should expand its intrastructures for it to improve the lives of its citizens.

4. It is better for remote and rural areas than their urban counterparts to keep their undeveloped lands and old buildings in natural states.

5. China's past economy was heavily dependant on its agricultural industry.

(Sorry, I cannot understand the second sentence.)

I will welcome any comments on my version too.
