Fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas are the main energy source for many countries. However, some nations are using alternative energy such as solar power, or wind power. To what extent do you think this is a
positive or negative development?

For centuries, fossil fuels have been used to generate the majority of the world’s energy. However, in recent years, a number of countries have shifted their attention onto adopting alternative energy sources, which I perceive to be a positive trend.

Undoubtedly, the exploitation of fuels such as oil, coal and natural gas implies certain dangers, chief among which are health and ecology degradation. The act of burning fuels in many power stations or vehicle engines emits a massive volume of carbon dioxide into the air on a daily basis, which is attributed to the deterioration of the air quality, particularly in metropolitan areas with high traffic density such as Ha Noi or Bombay. Consequently, the risks of having respiratory-related diseases such as asthma is increasing since short or long-term exposure to these air pollutants are associated with health impacts. Furthermore, the deteriorated air quality also slows down the process of photosynthesis, which is the main culprit behind the reducing number of trees.

Conversely, the environment would reap the manifold benefits of using energy sources such as solar or wind power. To begin with, these energies are regarded to be environmentally friendly as they are renewable and produce little emissions of greenhouse gases, which is the top priority these days when the world has been facing an ecological crisis. As a result, incidents of life-threatening conditions like respiratory disorders would be reduced, and habitat destruction would be minimized. Another reason is that due to the depletion of fossil fuels, the sun or the wind would be an ideal clean-energy source since they are inexhaustible.

In conclusion, I believe that instead of extracting fossil fuels, international authorities ought to allocate resources to the use of renewable energy such as solar power, and wind power in order to ensure the healthiness of both humans and the environment.
