Topic: Compare the influence of family and friends on teenagers (500 words)

Adolescence is a transitional stage of physical and psychological development that generally occurs during the period from puberty to legal adulthood, which is strongly believed to be greatly affected by a variety of determinant factors. According to Rodrigo (2016), this grown-up process mainly associated with families and peers through numerous distinctive styles of influences. Thus, it is undoubtedly that parents and friends act as the catalysts for impacting youngsters in terms of behaviours and studying progress.

The initial effect that families and friendships would bring about lies in the juveniles’ behaviours. It is hardly deniable that most children’s characteristics are profoundly shaped through observing adults since they regularly regard their parents and companions as the typical models to imitate and acknowledge. Specifically, teenagers are more likely to mimic their parents' actions as not only do youngsters have a strong attachment to their families at the beginning but parents are also considered as their first teachers. Should parents always possess exemplary behaviour, children could be positively influenced during their formative years. However, several parents are claimed to not take their children’s actions into consideration cautiously, leading to a whole host of detrimental influences on youngsters. An outstanding illustration is that if the fathers continue to smoke in front of children as a normal habit, they could gradually replicate those unhealthy actions into their daily life. Unlike the early influences of parents, peers have a tendency to impact juveniles during growth-related phases. Parental influences may become less important compared to companions when children grow up and gain behavioural autonomy (Velde, 2014). Apart from childhood, adolescents are prone to spend a great deal of time communicating with their companions in comparison with their parents (Ellis, 2018). It is obvious that peer relationships provide teenagers with reassurance, support, and encouragement during their teens’ development, as well as a source of social comparison, so they start engaging themselves in comparing with their peers in terms of academic achievement, characteristics, and body image to imitate the best features from their friends. Nevertheless, children’ abilities are negatively exerted by partners in developing process is inevitable. Using alcohol and involving in violence are considered as the typical examples of this problem, which possibly orient teenagers to take part in social problems.

Another key factor which adolescents are more likely to be influenced by families and companions is the studying progress. Particularly, most parents, especially the mothers, are always put high expectations on their children, which ineffectively drives teenagers to over-exhaustion and depression. Not only do they regularly put their children under huge pressure but also make comparison with the other, resulting in the feeling of inferior and lacking self-esteem when they step into societies. Therefore, youngsters could not pursue their real passion but are snowed under their parents’ orientation, which is one of the most crucial elements to cause children further drop in their learning results. Conversely, it is friends relationships would be the great driving force during adolescents’ studying process. Specifically, only by learning in the competitive environment of classes would children be granted opportunities to boost their motivation in achieving desired results. For instance, to keep pace with partners, students have to strive towards meeting their goals. Furthermore, companions will be of great assist for teenagers during long-term learning as friends could facilitate and become mutual support whenever children encounter difficulties in studying.

In conclusion, parents and companions do bring about profound influences when it comes to the establishment of children’ behaviours and studying process. It is noticeable that youngsters’ behaviours will be greatly impacted by families because of the close-knit cohesiveness rather than friends, while peers relationships make a greater contribution to learning. No matter how considerably do both factors impact adolescents, children will be the decision-makers on which effects they are about to acquire.
