Some people believe that they should be able to keep all the money they earn and should not have to pay tax to the state.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is argued that people should not pay taxes to the government and ought to keep all the money they earn. This essay completely disagrees with the statement because in absence of taxes, state cannot incur expenses on infrastructure and provide support to retirees or unemployed people.

Governments spends a huge portion of taxes on creating roads and rail networks. The roads and railways which are used more for transport are built, so that people can travel easily or carry out business activities without any hinderance. As a result, improved network not only benefits local people, but also increases the tourism in the country. For instance, Dubai had spent 40% of its annual taxes in building new roads due to which tourist increased by 50% since 2015.

Retired and jobless people get financial support from the state. A government collects taxes from people and corporates and spends a certain proportion on those who do not have any other source of income. This enables these people to meet their expenses until they find any other means for generating income. For example, a recent study conducted by the Cambridge University reported that Australia incurs 20% of its annual budget on retired and unemployed population. If it had not levied taxes, it would not have been possible for this country to support its population.

In conclusion, if people will not pay taxes to a government, it would be impossible for the state to build infrastructure and provide helping hand to those who are financially dependent on it.
