Figure is a very tricky word to use correctly. It has many meanings. One specialized meaning refers to business performance data and economic data.

It is used often (plural) in this context. It is not used as a general synonym for "number" in other contexts. I would advise you to not use it in Task 1 essays, at least until you have a lot of experience with it and are confident about the context.

Instead of repeating "percentages" learn to use pronouns. Pronouns are used to avoid repeating the same noun many times. However, if you do not know how to use pronouns, it is better just to repeat "percentage," because it is accurate and correct here.

This sample essay is too long, but it will give you ideas on how to write this type of essay and avoid repetition.

Outline:

Paragraph 1: Describe the figure and all its attributes. Do not mention any of the data content.
Paragraph 2: Pick out 2 or 3 main features.
Paragraph 3: Write about a few details. Focus on comparing and contrasting the different categories.
