Hi

The bar chart below illustrates five different industries’ percentage share of Brazil’s economy in 2009 and 2019 with a forecast for 2029.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chart shows the percentage of the share of five industries in Brazil’s economy in 2009 and 2019. The industries include finance, food processing, manufacturing, tourism, and oil, coal and gas. The chart also shows their estimated share in the country’s economy in 2029.

Of the five industries, the finance industry, with thirty per cent in 2009 and thirty-five per cent in 2019, has had the highest share in Brazil’s economy. This industry’s share is predicted to be above forty per cent in 2029. The second highest contributor to the country’s economy is oil, coal and gas industry: with twenty-five per cent share in 2009, it increased the share to thirty per cent in 2019.

Food processing industry which had just ten per cent share in 2009, significantly doubled its contribution in 2019. While tourism industry is to maintain its share of twenty per cent in 2029, the contribution of oil, coal and gas industry is estimated to slide by five per cent.

This bar chart, which shows the share of the economy in Brazil that each of five sectors takes in 2009, 2019 and a projection to 2029, is seriously flawed.

Thank you for your comment, AlpheccaStars.

I'm afraid I don't know the reason but will study it myself.

I will write on another prompt.

I think the problem is when we add the shares of each of the industries in a particular the value is exceeding 100, which is illogical.

Am I correct?

I made a couple of pie charts using the percentage values of the first four categories. Energy (oil and Gas) was what was left over. How does it match with the value on the bar chart? Consider the entire economy as a pizza pie that is divided up into different sectors.

Thank you, AlpheccaStars.

I understood the problem with them.

Some people who make up these practice tests suffer from innumeracy. A maths, science or engineering university lecturer would not make such errors. Neither would Cambridge.

I understand. Thank you, AlpheccaStars.
