It is often thought that the increase in juvenile crime can be attributed to violence in the media.

What solutions can you offer to deal with this situation?

In today’s world, people assume that media violence can result in the acceleration of crimes among young adults. From my perspective, I believe violent content on various means of mass communication is the top contributor leading to the rise in juvenile offenses. However, some actions can be taken to tackle this problem before it deteriorates further.

As technology develops, people can connect with the digital world via numerous methods; thus, violent content in the media is the main culprit of increasing juvenile criminals. Some widely-used social media platforms such as Facebook or Youtube can possibly contain aggressive videos which can have a detrimental effect on teenager’s behaviors. These videos trigger them to imagine aggressive actions and imitate criminals. Moreover, teenagers who play violent video games are likely to commit a crime because they make mistakes between the virtual world and the real world. To illustrate, some games relating to murdering or fighting can force players to imagine the way they attack somebody with weapons like an offender.

Nevertheless, there are several measures that I believe to be effective if taken immediately to minimize the juvenile crime rate. A potential solution is an early education from parents and schools. By raising awareness to take all benefits and disadvantages of mass communication into account, children can avoid being negatively affected by violence in these media. Additionally, governments should put an effort to manage and limit all aggressive sources in the digital network before it could take a toll on children’s behaviors and let them become criminals from an early age.

In conclusion, violence in mass communication is the major reason for the growing number of young offenders. Hopefully, this situation can be coped with a coordinated effort among families, educational systems and governments.
