Topic:

Maintaining public libraries is a waste of money since computer technology can replace their functions. Do you agree or disagree?

My essay:

These days, with the significant development of technology, electronic devices have crept into people’s daily life. It is thus argued that lavishing money upon conventional libraries now is unnecessary because the virtual ones might be an optimal choice. In my view, I party agree with this statement owl to several reasons.

On the one hand, using online libraries can be regarded as a positive trend for considerable advantages. Primarily, it provides patrons with access to a wide range of materials in just a second. Obviously, instead of wasting hours seeking a particular book in the local libraries, users could research similar sources of information which is valuable and reliable after a click. In other words, e-libraries are highly appropriate for those who are stuck in a rush situation. For example, an interviewee waiting for his or her turn cannot come to the public library to fulfill the lack of understanding he or she is looking for. Alternatively, he or she could gain the help of innovative libraries in a brief time with no transportation.

On the other hand, although virtual libraries could be a good substitute in certain circumstances, they could not perform all functions like the conventional ones. In particular, offering students and professors perfect zones for self-study and working conferences, as well as hosting reading festivals are unique functions of public libraries, which encourage individuals to read more books and creates opportunities to meet their like-minded person. In fact, some kinds of rare materials such as the original, archives, or manuscripts are not available in digital format whereas these useful sources are stored in traditional libraries. That is why people need to maintain them to preserve precious knowledge.

In conclusion, while the modern type of libraries obtains superior conveniences, which is an ideal approach for present-day citizens working in hectic schedules, the crucial role of traditional ones never could be denied.
