Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
It is believed that staying in a nation having more than one official language can lead to social issues. While a lot of people stand for this view, i think there are some advantages.
On the one hand, one of the most harmful effects of speaking a foreign language is the loss of traditional and cultural values. Because dialect is a vital part of the costume of a nation. Being fluent in the mother tongue helps us to understand more deeply about history, arts of older adults. For example, in the past, Singapore used to belong to Malaysia and spoke Malaysian too. At present, English and Chinese are the most popular languages instead of Malaysian, which makes Chinese culture to be more dominant.
In comparison, living in a country using a foreign language can bring some benefits. One of them is the chance to communicate with people from other countries. The more official language it has, the more diverse the culture is. In India, they not only speak Hindua but also they are really fluent in English which they learn from their Western customers. Communicating with native speakers give them opportunity to get exposed to English and make some money. Being brought up in that country can make you to be a bilingual because you learn your mother tongue and other languages. It helps you to be more easily to hold up a conversation and have a high level of proficiency in a foreign language.
In conclusion, i am of the opinion that speaking a foreign language in some nation has both good and bad effects.
