Young people are spending more time and money following fashion trends. What is your opinion? Is it a positive or negative development?
It is said that youngsters are now devoting a lot of time and money to catching up on fashion trends. While some people think that it is a positive development, personally, I strongly believe that this trend is negative because it is wasteful to keep up with fashion trends and will increase the discrimination between the poor and the rich.
To begin with, it is a waste of time and money to follow new trends. First, new brand clothes are just temporary and will not last long. The novelty of these items will soon wear off and the young get bored with them. As a result, their wardrobes are fully packed with clothes and they hardly put them on. According to a new survey, many young people say that they have their wardrobes full of new clothes and barely use them, so they throw them away wastefully or give them away to relatives and friends.
On top of that, these trends can increase the discrimination between the poor and the rich. Not everyone can afford new brand clothes. The poor do not have enough money to purchase these things because they have to fulfill their basics like food and medicine. While some rich people want to show off their wealth by keeping up with new trends that can upset several people. Consequently, their relationship will worsen and many conflicts and jealousy may occur.
To sum up, investing a lot of time and money in following fashion trends is not a positive development, because it is wasteful and arises many social issues.
