Some argue that patriotism is the primary cause of wars globally. Others feel that it serves to prevent less ethical politicians from running a country and starting wars.

Some people argue that national pride is the main culprit of wars, rather than resolving conflicts and wars. In my opinion, although patriotism do prevent war crimes, people who support excessive nationalism can be a catalyst promoting immoral governmental leaders to create world wars.On the one hand, proponents of national pride nurturing peace point out that their patriotism can stop the government to start a war. This is because the residents themselves do not want their countries to encounter genocide, serious injuries among troops, and damages to their economy, like economic embargoes and isolation from other countries. Through the strikes of certain big groups of residents, they can voice their hopes of a beautiful world without wars and then leaders may put off and even stop campaigns of jeopardizing and annexing the territory of other nations. As a case in point, in the wars between America and Vietnam, thousands of American people from different classes stopped working and protested as a response towards their governmental decision of colonizing Vietnam. The result was that the US government had to accelerate the nation's exit from Vietnam.Conversely, from my perspective, people who believe in nationalism or chauvinism can be manipulated and misled by negative opinions about the values of other nations and the diplomatic relations between their countries and others. For instance, in the past, a large number of German people being persuaded by the speech about master race of Hitler did believe that their nation are superior and more genius than others and weaker and impoverished nations should be discriminated and even eradicated. The misconception led the World War II and the Holocaust, which was first pioneered by their authority, to happen.In conclusion, patriotism does prevent the politicians from starting wars; however, an excess of patriotism can pose opposite results.
