The proportion remained roughly unchanged until 2003, as the number of birds sighted nearly increased one and half times, to around 9000 including 5 thousand flamingoes, which was ten times the number of kingfishers. In the following two years, there was a major increase in all three categories of birds with constant differences. By 2008, the number of flamingos had plateaued at 9000 units before experiencing a significant rise, peaking at a little over 12000 birds while that for black beak pelican declined of 1000, followed by a mild recover to its 2005 numbers. In contrast, the kingfisher count continued to surge at over 4000 units.
