TASK: People are having more and more sugar-based drinks. What are the reasons? What are the solutions to make people drink less?

My essay:

Recently, there has been an increase in the consumption of drinks which contain a considerable proportion of carbohydrates. The increasing usage of such drinks is primarily due to a couple of reasons, and some measures could be taken to incentivize people to use these unhealthy drinks less.

To begin with, the main reason why people consume more soft drinks is that they tend to have a preferential bias towards something sweet. For example, people, especially children, usually purchase many sweets such as birthday cakes, candies, or biscuits. People can even regard candies as special presents for their children when they are obedient. Such a great appetite for sugar-contained food could not resist the lusciousness of soft drinks such as cokes, or milkshakes. Another significant cause behind such an unhealthy trend is that curiosity drives people to consume more of those kinds of drinks. Recognizing the potential of the soft drinks industry, more companies start producing more carbohydrate drinks, making the range of such drinks more diverse. This would make people want to try as many products as they could to make comparisons among them.

Such a harmful habit of consuming sweet drinks should be brought to an end. A possible method which could partly reduce the consumption is that the government could impose more taxes on those drinks. By doing this, people would be more reluctant to buy such expensive products. Another suggestion for this tendency is that more programs could be broadcasted to indicate how harms those drinks could do to people’s health and the unwanted repercussions when using too much them. This would raise awareness among residents, making them drink less.

In conclusion, people use more and more drinks containing a high amount of sugar, which is due to the deliciousness of sweet food and the curiosity of trying something new. And some approaches could be adopted to decrease the consumption of such sugar-based drinks.
