Overall, all schools shown experienced a downward trend with the exception of the community schools. Another key feature is that voluntary- controlled schools were the most popular school type in 2000 and 2005, meanwhile, the community schools registered the highest attendance in 2009.
In 2000, the percentage of pupils attending voluntary-controlled schools was 52%, more than double that of grammar schools. The proportion of students who went to specialist schools constituted 12% which was the same go for community schools. 5 years later, although the figure for voluntary- controlled schools declined to 38%, it still holds the highest position in 2005.
