MOTIVATION LETTER

With this letter, I am writing apply bachelor program in sustainable business and technology at Birkenfeld University.

By reading the course curriculum available online in natural and social sciences, such as mathematics, statistics, ecology, environmental chemistry, methods of sustainability communication as well as sustainability management and sustainability governance. I have found that the subject material covered will best suit my career goals. Also, the program will help me integrate sustainable approaches into everyday business practices, understand social values, guidelines, and behavioral patterns which generate these problems, gain power of judgement, and develop new approaches for a gentler processing of natural resources.

I graduated with a Higher National Diploma in Agricultural Extension and Management from College of Agriculture, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in Nigeria. During my program, I was very active in many facets of my study life. This gave me an outlet to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting and also sparked my interest in travelling and learning new cultures. Further to this I remained engaged in university affairs by volunteering as class representative (attended a group solving and anger management workshop organized by IFESH, USAID and Ahmadu Bello University Zaria). In this regard, my duties varied from taking prospective students on tours, and speaking to schools around the country regarding self-development and empowerment. Furthermore, I was highly committed to the development of a hitherto non-existent University Football Club. Taking over the committee in football, my first semester was solely on developing the club to be a self-sustaining, award-winning, and socially interactive club. Lastly, with all of the responsibilities at hand, I remained vigilant with my academic performance. I was hence among the best students in Management, received one of the highest grades amongst my peers.

By profession, I am gathering experience from Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund where we are committed to employee welfare. The work gives me an excellent insight into the public sector, since I have an outstanding opportunity to explore different working methods and practice the knowledge I gained at university and microcred. I have gathered good communication skills as well as gained understanding of Nigeria workforce. During this role, I undertook a training on the applications of Employee Compensation Scheme and advanced enforcement audit investment and treasury management. One of the integral parts of my interest in business came from experience gathered from Microcred Microfinance Bank Nigeria, a member of Planet Group UK as a commercial officer. I was especially fascinated with the strategies the bank used to adapt to changes in consumers’ expectations and needs and how they maintain profitable business in rigorous environment. Therefore, I see that further study presents an exciting challenge which I want to pursue in my future.

Worked as a volunteer at Hope Innovations Empowerment Foundation, then taking up a role as a program officer a Non-governmental Organization. Through the job on humanitarian work, I learned tools and methods for analysis of personal development and intellectual potential.

Hence, I have developed the capabilities to work in stressful, challenging, and fast-paced environments. I will bring those skills to the bachelor studies as well, and apply them in my future professional career. This is seen in my promotion from a staff on probation to a full fledge commercial officer at microcred microfinance bank, and promotion from officer 2 to officer 1 at Nigeria social insurance trust fund.

Germany is a country with huge array of international programmes and interdisciplinary programmes which allows you to specialize. As technical skills and excellence cannot be achieved without excellent education, it is therefore a promising destination for higher education. The fact that many of Germany’s institutions of higher education charge little or no tuition fee by international comparison highlights the importance Germany holds in higher education. I also value Germany’s industrialization and diversification.

I spent much of my childhood living with uncles who studied and in Europe especially Germany particularly Frankfurt, and finally returned to Nigeria. Having the privilege at an early age sparked my interest in cultural interactions and how information is shared by means of globalisation with the internet as the main hub. With this upbringing, I became interested in travelling and henceforth learnt about Germany and its environs in school and in my free time through watching soccer and surfing the internet (youtube). Learning intensively through Youtube, I gathered information about livelihood of the people and culture differences, seeing how friendly Germans are. Learning about the program some time ago I set aside a goal which is to further improve myself. As I write this, I have learned living cost in European cities and regional parts, also took English classes, and sat for IELTS and obtained a 6.5 overall band with no less the 6.0 in all band, and I am capable of communicating effectively. Given the opportunity, however, I would use any available language program to improve on my English and learn German.

I want to use the opportunity to visit SolarWorld in Bonn that manufactures and market photovoltaic products, to familiarize myself with the way light is being converted into electricity using semiconducting materials that exhibit photovoltaic effect

As mentioned earlier, the future of sustainability in Nigeria will demand a workforce with a specialised skillset. With this degree I would like to meet this demand and, in the future, be a pioneer in the architecture, management and protection of livelihoods. The experiences listed would make me a valuable addition to the bachelor program at your prestigious University.

Thank you in advance for considering my application.
