Hi! Gurus and members!

The following sentences, all meaning, “I prayed to God for his safe coming back”, which are correct and which are incorrect?

(a) I prayed to God that he should come back safe.

(b) I prayed to God that he might come back safe.

(c) I prayed to God that he would come back safe.

(d) I prayed to God that he come back safe.

I'd choose b), as it shows a request for God's permission to come back.

I think all the choices are okay, and I think you could also use any of them with "safely" rather than "safe." Another very common way to expres this thought is "I prayed to God for his safe return."
