hello,

I'm a English learner. I have a question relating to this following sentence:

Yesterday i bought some furniture for my kitchen. Some of them are so expensive.

My question is that:

- "Furniture" in the first sentence is uncountable noun, so whether "them" could be used as pronoun for "furniture" or we will use " Some of it" instead?

- Some of Noun+Verb. If Noun is plural the following verb must be plural and contrary, if Noun is uncountable the verb must be singular. My problem is: If we use them( to refer "Furniture") and the "Furniture" itself is uncountable noun, thus the verb must be singular. In other word, the sentence should be rewritten like this:

Yesterday i bought some furniture for my kitchen. Some of them is so expensive.

I'm so confused about this matter. Could you help me?

Thank you so much.

A small extra comment.

In careful writing, say 'Some of it was very expensive'.

Use 'so' if a consequence is stated or implied,

eg Some of it was so expensive that I had to borrow some money from my parents.

But note that the use of 'so' instead of 'very' is extremely common in everyday English.

Thank you for helping me. I got it

Yesterday , I bought some pieces of furniture for my kitchen. Some pieces of furniture are so expensive.

I prefer to write as : I bought furniture for my kitchen yesterday. Some pieces of it were so expensive.

'furniture' is an uncountable noun. I am not sure if it is correct when I use is, it for furniture because I need correct answer too.

anonymous I bought furniture for my kitchen yesterday. Some pieces of it were so expensive.

That wouldn't be wrong, but it would be more natural to say:

I bought furniture for my kitchen yesterday. Some of the pieces were so expensive.

Or you could say:

I bought furniture for my kitchen yesterday. Some pieces were so expensive.
