That is a New Zealand accent. They interpret many of the vowels very differently from the way I do here in the Midle Atlantic USA.

They sound normal for the region. In New Zealand [ɛ] shades to [e].

There are more surprises, though. Many of them say [ɪgz] for "eggs".
