My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains/ reigns???
Unending love, Amazing grace

THANK YOU very much for your help!

THANK YOU!

Like a flood his mercy reigns.

A flood reigns, i.e. the power of a flood dominates and rules, over the land. If you don't believe it just try to challenge a flood and you'll forevermore respect there power.

olivecarI think it is rains but I am not sure.

I think so, too.

I can imagine, metaphorically, His mercy raining unending love and amazing grace, but not His mercy reigning unending love and amazing grace.

It would have to be reigns over unending love and amazing grace, and that neither has anything to do with a flood nor makes any sense in general.

By the way, this appears to be a section of lyrics not actually part of the original "Amazing Grace".
