If you choose d), you'll be confronted with this sentence: "the doctor recommended me that Ishould go on a strict diet", which is not correct. You have to choose another one! Emotion: smile

(if you want to use "that" with "recommend", it would be "... recommended that I go on a ...")
Thanks Pieanne.

That 'me' it's what makes me doub. I think recommend can be followed by -ing but in this case I think it's not possible.

So is it TO GO the correct answer? Why? Can be followed by an infinitive? Isn't recomend similar to suggest, i.e. followed by either -ing or a that clause with a subjuntive verb?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

"Recommend" is used one of the following three ways:

1) The doctor recommended his quitting smoking.
2) The doctor recommended him to quit smoking.
3) The doctor recommended he (should) quit smoking.

Emotion: tongue tied The "should" doesn't google very well... 498 for "recommend he should do" against 1,180 for "recommend he do"...

"Should do" is BrE version and "Do" is AmE version. Maybe online we have more AmE speakers than BrE speakers.
