What does Best/kind REGARDS means? It's probably hard to explain, but any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Regards means greetings. So 'kind regards' or 'best regards' means something like 'I greet you in a friendly way'.

Regards probably comes from the french verb 'regarder' meaning to look. I guess that it came into English as a way of saying 'I look at you' or 'Hello'.

I hope this is some help.
This is entirely wrong. Regards doesn't mean "greetings"; it means "think of", as in "I regard you as a friend" or "I regard you as an enemy". Qualifying that as "best regards" means "With the best of thoughts towards you". "Kind regards" means "with the kindest thoughts towards you", etc.

Perhaps not "entirely"?

Some people seem to have "greetings" in mind when they use it, at least to some small extent.

When I say, "Give my regards to your wife," it can mean more than simply "Tell her I'm thinking of her."
But, when you come to think of it, what do we mean by "greetings," anyway?
Regards - properly - means with regards to, which means with attention to the matters discussed above.
Hi guys,

What does Best/kind REGARDS means?

Here's another way to approach it.

If it's at the end of an email, it's often just a polite way to say 'I've finished this email'.

This seems far afield from the original poster's question, which I think was best addressed by the one-time poster, etimbo, six and a half years ago.

What have you done regarding the above matter? (with regard[ s ] to) "Regarding" is a preposition here!

What have you done regards the above matter? (In my opinion, this is a very low-register substitute.)

These uses have nothing to do with the expressions, "kind regards," and "best regards."

The only common thread is the verb "to look," which seems to be overlooked. Emotion: geeked

How do you look at this? I look at you kindly. My thoughts of you are the best.
to regard it to think of in a way. best regards would mean they think of you in the best way. kind regards would be thinking of you in a kind way. basicly they are saying they think possitively or highly of you. if you say i hold you in high regards you're says i think highly of you
Hi,

I repeat -

If it's at the end of an email, it's often just a polite way to say 'I've finished this email'.
