Dear teachers ,

Can I say :

1/ My exam score is 4.5 , so the teacher will sure round it up / off to 5.

2/ My exam score is 4.25 , so the teacher will sure round it down / off to 5.

3/ I bought a shirt for VND 50,025 , so the cashier rounded it off to VND 50,000.

4/ Since the purchase price was an odd number , so the cashier rounded it off to the nearest dollar /dong / yen

5/ Since the purchase price was an odd number , so the cashier rounded it off .

Thank you very much.

Usually, if something is .5 or more, you round UP.

If it's more than 0 but less than .49999 (etc.) you round DOWN.

I'm not familiar with any teacher who will round up a 4.25 to a 5.

Your use of "round off" is okay, but don't use both "since" and "so."
If you round a number to the nearest multiple of five, 4.45 will become 4.5 and 4.75 will become 5.0. Am I right?

4.75 is just as near 4.5 as 5.0 as you seem to be rounding to two decimal places with your other example. who can say?

Anyway the main point to learn here is that when you 'round up' you make the number bigger and when you 'round down' you make the number smaller.
Sorry teachers , I made a mistake when wrote 5 instead of 4 in sentence # 2 , which should reread as :

2/ My exam score is 4.25 , so the teacher will sure round it down / off to 4.

I wonder whether "round off "can be used for both directions :up and down.i.e can I say " My exam score is 4.25 , so the teacher will sure round it off to 4 " instead of " round it down to 4 ". Similarly , can I say " " My exam score is 4.75 , so the teacher will sure round it off to 5 " instead of " round it up to 5 "

Your explanation would be highly appreciated

Best wishes
I would say "round off" can apply to either rounding up or rounding down.
