'I'm a fool to want you ' by Billie Hiliday

I'm a fool to want you
I'm a fool to want you
To want a love that can't be true
A love that's there for others too

I'm a fool to hold you
Such a fool to hold you
To seek a kiss not mine alone
To share a kiss the Devil has known

Time and time again I said I'd leave you
Time and time again I went away
But then would come the time when I would need you
And once again these words I'll have to say

"I'm a fool to want you
Pity me, I need you
I know it's wrong, it must be wrong
But right or wrong I can't get along
Without you"

I can't get along
Without you
Jack Wolf, Joel Heron and Frank Sinatra wrote this song.

Billie Holliday was the singer of this version used for the Chanel N°5 advertisement.

It's certainly one of man's oldest stories - falling for someone you can't really have.

In your opinion, Air, is this a tragedy?
I think that love in any way is a huge gift.

Tradegy is if one doesn't love.

if it isn't not mutual ,for some reasons might be quite sad,but also very inspirational and creative.

Merci for telling a bit of song's history,John!:)

Students: Are you brave enough to let our tutors analyse your pronunciation?
I agree that love is a gift.

But, like all gifts, sometimes it is appropriate to accept them and sometimes it is not. The problem is that most of us don't know when to say no. We permit ourselves to fall in love with the wrong person, knowing full well that we are headed down a dangerous path.

I too was surprised to see Sinatra's name as an author of the lyrics. I have never heard this song sung by him. Sorry, it's not one of my favorites from that era.
