You need to rewrite your first sentence in a simper way.

Do you mean this? We will only replace the unit if it is cheaper for us than repairing it.

Your second sentence is hard to understand. Here is my best guess about what it means.

However, the unit was replaced on 18 April 2020 although it failed to meet the replacement requirement that the unit should be more than 5 years old.

_____________________________________________________________

Instead of 5 years lifespan, say

less than 5 years old / more than 5 years old

or

under 5 years old / over 5 years old

___________________________________________________________

Finally, I don't understand how your second sentence connects with your first sentence.

Thanks for the reply and comment.

Let me explain more about the story.

The company established the criteria for unit replacement. Any aged unit does not permit replacing a new one if the lifespan of the unit is less than 5 years.

After the comparison of the repair and replacement cost of the unit, the replacement cost is cheaper than the repair cost.

It is recommended the management should consider adopting the replacement approach to fix the problem to save money.

Here is what I think these sentences mean.

A failure of a unit <<< What kind of unit. Are we still talking about watches ???

Replacing is cheaper than repairing, and it It will be good for business. However, senior management's policy is that replacement is not permitted if the unit is less than 5 years old. In this particular case, I recommend senior management consider replacement as it is cheaper.
