I've always been good with English and maintained the highest of scores but there s one thing I just don't get and that is semicolons! How do they work? Where should I place them? Should I place them anywhere?

I do apologize greatly for asking such a simple question.
Hello, Lady Yofiel - and welcome to English Forums.

Should I place them anywhere? -- No, of course not. They have two basic functions:

1-- To separate independent clauses of a sentence instead of a conjunction.
2-- To separate items in a list that have internal commas.

1-- They do not reap; they do not sow.
2-- I have lived in Chicago, IL; Los Angeles, CA; and Washington, DC.
Students: Are you brave enough to let our tutors analyse your pronunciation?
I see! I see! I'll practice a bit more and I'll eventually get the hang of it.

Domo arigatou gozaimasu Mr. Micawber!
(Thank you very much)
