Hi,

What size is it? It's size 8. Or it's a size 8.

And, What size do you wear? I wear size 8. Or I wear a size 8.

They are all commonly said.

Hi Clive:

Thank you very much for the reply. But if I have to tell the difference between size 8 and a size 8, can I say that size 8 is more abstract, which describes the property of the merchandise, and a size 8 refers to the actual size 8 merchandise (a size 8 pair of shoes for example)? When asked about shoe fitting at a shoe store, which of the following are proper replies?

I am size 8.

I am a size 8.

I wear size 8.

I wear a size 8.

Or you would tell me not to make fuss over it because there is not much difference between them.

To me, "My shoe size is 8" is better than "I am size 8".
Hi,

Or you would tell me not to make fuss over it because there is not much difference between them. Yes.

Krish, you can certainly say what you suggest, but it's not what you'll usually hear in a shoe store. In such a place, you are 'stating the obvious' when you say 'my shoe size is 8', because the salesclerk knows you are not talking about your hat size in a shoe store.

Best wishes, Clive

I see your point, Clive. Thanks.

Hello Krish

Suppose you fly to somewhere with an American friend, and suppose an attendant comes to deliver drinks your folks asked her to bring. And suppose the attendant is going to give whisky to your friend who ordered beer, then he might say "No, no, I am beer, and Krish is whisky".
