Dear teachers! I have these two sentences, and my teaching program says the right answer is #2. Is it because so cannot be followed by an article when being in such type of phrase(adjectival?)? Am I right in thinking that I've never met such a good man before., is correct and more in use?

1. I've never met so a good man before.

2. I've never met so good a man before.

Please point out every error in my post.

Thank you in advance.

[Yes ] when being in such type of phrase(adjectival?)? Am I right in thinking that I've never met such a good man before [no punctuation here] is correct [Yes ] and more in use [Maybe just a little more in use.]?

Dear CJ! As always clear and simple. Thank you very much - you are so good a person! Emotion: smile

AaronArtso good a person

Emotion: big smile

Now that I think of it, 'such a good' sounds more "everyday" while 'so good a' sounds more lofty and formal. Emotion: smile

CJ

CalifJim'so good a' sounds more lofty and formal.

Ok, I won't call you that! Emotion: smile But, to be serious, fraze.it seems to agree with you onsuch a good, giving far more sentences for it than for the so good a phrase.

https://fraze.it/n_search.jsp?hardm=1&t=0&l=0&p=5&q=such+a+good

https://fraze.it/n_search.jsp?q=so+good+a&l=0&t=0&ffo=false&findid=-1&ff =
Note: the search for so good a shows more results than for such a good, but there are almost no sentences with the exact word combination.

Thanks again to you, dear CJ, and every teacher on these forums- you are the best!

The answers were from a post more than 5 years ago. The person who asked the question was very satisfied with CJ's answer.

If you are still confused after reading it, you should ask for more clarification or a simpler explanation.

Do not just throw out a criticism when it's not your post! That is not polite, Red Guava 494.
