hi,
It's an uncountable noun.
You can say things like two software packages, or two pieces of software.

The plural of software is software. No doubt about it. Check the best of dictionaries.

The problem with this site and others like it that permit anyone who thinks s/he has the correct answer to offer it up without any verification other than the number of "I think so too's" it accumulates is that, even though you come here to get an answer, in the end you have nothing other than the weight of collective knowledge or ignorance to determine correctness. It reminds me of the trope, "Everyone's entitled to his/her own opinion." True, perhaps, but also, "Everyone's entitled to his/her own opinion but not to his/her own facts," one that's in frequent use these days! Are there any true authorities any more...or were there ever, for that matter!?
